Disability Access

Hebden Bridge Disability Access Forum, working group of Hebden Royd Town Council, formed in 2016 with the aim of improving access to life in general, in the Hebden Royd area.

The group warmly welcomes new members with any sort of disability, including for example impairments of mobility, vision, hearing, communication, neurological issues, mental health issues, neurodiversity, learning disability and chronic illness.

Members contribute by attending the regular monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month, and/or by discussion on our online forum and by phone or email with each other. Members are welcome to contribute in whatever way they can manage.

Hebden Bridge Disability Access Forum also works to raise awareness of disability issues and access needs in the area, and to make Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd and surrounding villages a disabled-friendly place for both residents and visitors.

They promote the Social Model of Disability, which says that people with impairments are 'disabled' by the barriers operating in society that exclude and discriminate against them.

There is always work to do in between meetings for those members who are able and willing. All contributions are equally welcome, large or small.

The group meets on the third Monday of each month by Zoom video link at 3pm to 4.30pm. You are very welcome to have a Personal Assistant, support worker or anyone else to support you at meetings, if wanted. You are welcome to attend regularly, occasionally, or for only part of the meeting, to suit your needs.

Since the Coronavirus outbreak, HBDAF also meet for an informal drop-in chat, with no agenda and no minutes, on the first Monday of each month by Zoom video link at 3pm. New members are very welcome at both meetings.
