The inspirational 8 year old Winnie Woodhead took on a huge challenge on 12th July.
Winnie is Consort (and granddaughter) to the Mayor of Hebden Royd Town Council, Cllr Steve Woodhead. Winnie decided that she wanted to cycle 60 miles from Mytholmroyd to Manchester and back, in just one day. This despite the fact that she’d never cycled such a large distance before.
Winnie’s aim was to raise funds for the Mayor’s charity, Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team (CVSRT). CVSRT is run by volunteers who provide essential life-saving rescue services across the valley, from casualty care and evacuation in difficult terrain to supporting partner agencies with searches for vulnerable missing people.
The Mayor cycled alongside Winnie throughout. Despite the heatwave, they managed to complete the challenge in just 10.5 hours!
In total, Winnie raised an incredible £3,256.00, plus £665.88 in Gift Aid (at last count). As an organisation which relies entirely on fundraising to cover operating costs, these funds will make a huge difference to CVSRT. Congratulations on your incredible achievement Winnie!
