Cllr Keith Butterick (2025-2026)

To be the Mayor of Hebden Royd is an honour and privilege. You are representing a fascinating and diverse community spanning a wide range of beliefs, cultures and outlooks.

There are families who have lived here for generations, alongside newcomers from across the country all working to build a vibrant, inclusive community. Regardless of background, there is a shared belief that dreams and ambitions can be realised here. To make that possible, we must continue working together.

I believe that communities achieve more when they work together. In the age of social media, however—where misinformation and disinformation can instantly spread and sow division—this can be challenging. Whatever obstacles, Hebden Royd Town Council, its councillors and superb staff are committed to serving and uniting the whole community.

My ambition for the Mayoral year is to nurture this community spirit showcasing everything our area has to offer, and challenge those who seek to divide us.

My chosen charity for the year is White Ribbon, an organisation committed to ending men’s violence against women. In a time when toxic masculinity appears to be on the rise—as highlighted by media such as Adolescence and recent high-profile court cases like that of Sean “Diddy” Combs demonstrate how important it is to bring this issue into the public spotlight. The work of White Ribbon focuses on education: helping people to recognise and challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours. Their aim is simple but vital—to never use, excuse, or remain silent about men’s violence against women.

The Mayoral Chain

The HRTC Mayoral chain features the iconic Packhorse Bridge at Bridge Gate. Built in 1510, the bridge connects the two sides of the valley and historically formed a key passing point of the packhorse route.
