Town Centre Cleaning Efforts Boosted by New Operative

A new Street Cleaning Operative has started work in the centre of Hebden Bridge, as part of a collaborative initiative to tackle town centre cleanliness, particularly during busy weekends.

The project is a partnership between Hebden Royd Town Council (HRTC), Calderdale MBC (CMBC) and Hebden Bridge Community Association (HBCA), and is designed to help keep the town clean and welcoming, especially throughout the busy summer months.

The Barrow Operative is already making a positive impact, providing much-needed additional support to existing services. The introduction of the operative responds to ongoing concerns about litter and general upkeep, particularly at weekends when the town sees high visitor numbers.

Chair of the Local Environment and Climate Committee, Councillor Steve Woodhead, said: “We know how busy Hebden Bridge gets, especially on weekends, and that keeping it tidy is a big challenge. This new role is a vital step forward. It supports our ongoing commitment to ensuring Hebden Bridge remains a vibrant, welcoming and sustainable community for both residents and visitors.”

In addition to the street cleaning initiative, HRTC is also exploring opportunities to work with CMBC to increase the number of bins in Calder Holmes Park, particularly around the playground and other well-used areas. This forms part of a wider commitment to improving waste management and supporting cleaner, greener public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
