This year sees the 100 year commemoration of the First World War. To mark this significant occasion, Hebden Royd Town Council, in partnership with Pennine Horizons and Hebden Bridge Local History Society and Pennine Horizons have organised a programme of events to remember those who served and those who were left behind, and the impact of the War on our local community.
On Sunday 3rd August a Service of Commemoration will be held at 2pm at Hope Baptist Church, Hebden Bridge. All are welcome at the service and it is hoped that people from across the community will join together to remember those who served our country. After the service the Hebden Bridge and District Roll of Honour will be available for viewing. For the first time in history the Roll of Honour brings together the names and stories of the 435 men who served and lost their lives in the First World War.
The commemoration continues on Monday 4th August with an exhibition of local history relevant to the time at the Hebden Bridge Town Hall, put together by author Mike Crawford members of Hebden Bridge Local History Society.
Alongside the exhibition, a fantastic sand sculpture will be created in the courtyard of Hebden Bridge Town Hall. This will be constructed over the week from Monday 4th August by local artist Jamie Wardley, and will stand approximately two metres high. The sculpture will be available to view over the coming weeks.
