HEBDEN'S FAVOURITE FILM

The climax of the Hebden's Favorite Film Season comes to the Picture House this Thursday (17th May) at 7.30pm, with the winner of the Public Vote 'Brief Encounter' coming to the big screen once more.

Brief Encounter

David Lean's classic received over 23% of all the votes we received. Critically acclaimed on release, sharing the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1946, it is still ranked highly by critics and audiences alike, coming 2nd in the British Film Institute's poll of the greatest British films, and serves as one of Noël Coward's greatest works (the film was written and produced by the great playwright).

The story tells of suburban housewife Laura Jesson (Johnson), who meets doctor Alec Harvey (Howard) in the refreshment room of a railway station. Although Laura is married, the couple start to fall for each other and continue to meet at the station cafe, knowing all the time that their love is impossible.

BRIEF ENCOUNTER (PG) - Thurs 17th May - For one night only
