LIGHTS, CAMERA, SCREEN2: UPDATE

HRTC are pleased to share the following update on the Picture House

Following initial consultation work, considerable work has been carried out to progress the LIGHTS, CAMERA, SCREEN2 project. We've taken time to listen and understand the responses to our public consultation and evaluate the needs of the Picture House for its long-term future.

The Town Council are looking at securing capital redevelopment investment to enable the addition of a second screen and also address areas highlighted by the consultation that risk limiting what our independent cinema can achieve in the future. For example, ensuring that our magnificent heritage asset is not only sympathetically preserved, but also made financially sustainable and accessible to everyone in our community for the long term.

In early November the Picture House Committee agreed an application to the National Heritage Lottery Fund would be an excellent fit for the project. At every stage, we've been guided by extensive research and collaboration. This has included meetings with operators of similar independent cinemas, conducting market research, and shortlisting contractors.

Following this groundwork, specialist conservation architects Page\Park - renowned for their work on Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds- have been engaged to develop a full options appraisal. Supported by DCA Consultants, this appraisal will form the foundation of our expression of interest to the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

While there is still much work ahead, the Picture House Committee is confident that this comprehensive approach- focusing on the building, its services, and its community offerings- will secure a vibrant future for the Picture House. If the expression of interest is successful, we will carefully review the options before advancing to the development application stage.

The final decision on whether to proceed or not with any application will be made by the full council at the appropriate time and will always be transparent.

HRTC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who continues to support the Picture House, and we will continue to keep the community updated.
