Yorkshire Day 2025: Embracing Heritage and Community

We are delighted to announce that the Mayor of Hebden Royd, Cllr. Pat Fraser, along with the Mayor's Consort, Cllr. Keith Butterick, attended the official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration on 1st August, 2025, in York. This unique and tradition-rich event marked the most important day in Yorkshire.

The celebration began early in the morning, with guests arriving at York Racecourse, where they were transported to York Guildhall. Here, a warm welcome was extended by the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, and Cllr. Claire Douglas, Leader of City of York Council, as they joined distinguished guests for a breakfast gathering. The event featured entertainment and an opportunity for civic leaders, VIPs, and members of The Yorkshire Society to engage in camaraderie.

A highlight of the day was the grand street parade. Yorkshire's Mayors, dressed in their ceremonial robes and chains of office, along with their attendants and other dignitaries, processed from the Guildhall through the historic streets of York to the Minster. The parade, led by the York Guard culminated in a special service at the Minster, during which the official Yorkshire Flag was ceremonially handed over.

Following the service, attendees enjoyed welcome drinks and further entertainment. The celebration continued with a formal civic lunch prepared by Yahala Mataam (Welcome Restaurant), a Syrian and Afghan Refugee Kitchen. Esteemed guest speakers addressed the gathering, providing insights and reflections on Yorkshire's cultural legacy.

It was an honour for the Mayor of Hebden Royd to be among the esteemed invitees, sharing in the festivities and celebrating the rich heritage of Yorkshire.
