Mayor of Hebden Royd Town Council attends Prestigious Official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration in Rotherham

We are delighted to announce that the Mayor of Hebden Royd Cllr. Bernice Hayes, along with Mayor's Consort Mr James Edmund Hayes, attended the official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration on 1st August, 2023, in Rotherham. This unique event, organised by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in collaboration with The Yorkshire Society, was a highlight of Yorkshire's 'national day' celebrations.

The Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration offered an unforgettable experience for the distinguished guests, including Mayors, Lord Mayors, Civic Leaders, and VIPs from across Yorkshire. The day commenced with a Brunch at Rotherham Town Hall, providing an opportunity for networking and camaraderie among the attendees.

The event continued with the Mayors Parade, a procession that led from Rotherham Town Hall to the historic Rotherham Minster. Here, a special service took place where there was a formal hand-over of the official Yorkshire Flag, symbolising the pride and heritage of the region.

Transportation to the iconic Wentworth Woodhouse, one of the grandest stately homes in the country, was provided on vintage buses. At Wentworth Woodhouse, the guests were treated to a Yorkshire themed three-course dinner. Attendees then had the opportunity to partake in guided tours of the historic property and learn more about the iconic landmark.

The Official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration was a by-invitation-only event, and it was an honour for the Mayor of Hebden Royd to be among its invitees.
