Hebden Bridge Film Festival 2020 cancelled

Louise Wadley, Film Festival Director: We are very sorry to announce that we are postponing the 2020 Hebden Bridge Film Festival. Given the worsening situation with the Covid-19 virus we feel this is the right decision. It is very disappointing as we had a great programme of wonderful films, but the safety of our audience, guests, volunteers and staff is our priority.

We hope to host a revised programme on the last weekend of September (25 – 27) with as many of the programmed films as possible. For pass-holders, your pass will be valid, or you may have a refund if you prefer. All individual ticketholders will be offered a full refund. Everyone will be contacted by email with more information.

Hebden Royd Town Council Community Funding Projects: Hebden Bridge Film Festival 2020

The 2020 Hebden Bridge Film Festival will take place from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 March 2020. The full programme for the 2020 Hebden Bridge Film Festival has been launched with new films from the UK and around the world.

Louise Wadley, Hebden Bridge Film Festival director said, "Following the huge success of the inaugural Hebden Bridge Film Festival in 2019 we are back with an eclectic range of films to suit all tastes. We have films from all around the world, telling a variety of important and powerful stories. There will be a range of very special guests and a few surprises planned. We urge everyone to take a look at the full programme and to come along and be part of Hebden Bridge Film Festival 2020."

Jess Buckley in Misbehaviour

Highlights include:

  • British comedy-drama film Misbehaviour about the 1970 protests at Miss World. The film features an all-star cast with Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jessie Buckley, Keeley Hawes, Phyllis Logan, Lesley Manville, Rhys Ifans and Greg Kinnear. BAFTA winning director Philippa Lowthorpe and writer Gabi Chiappe will take part in a special Q&A. They will be joined by two of the original activists, Jo Robinson and Jenny Fortune (Friday 27 March, 7pm, Hebden Bridge Picture House)
  • Award-wining documentary The Australian Dream. The director, Daniel Gordon, and former Chelsea captain and Show Racism the Red Card representative, Ken Monkou will both take part in a panel session and provide a fascinating perspective on this vital topic (Saturday 28 March, 8.15pm, Hebden Bridge Picture House).
  • Swedish-Georgian award-winning drama And Then We Danced, a LGBTQ+ love story set in the world of professional ballet. Presented in partnership with Happy Valley Pride (Sunday 29 March, 6pm, Hebden Bridge Picture House).
  • The world premiere of Just Joy, a short film about 63-year-old Joy France who takes on the male dominated rap battling world by going head to head in her first rap battle competition. (Sunday 29 March, 5.45pm, Hebden Bridge Town Hall – part of the shorts competition).
  • The UK Premier of Beloved, a documentary following Firouzeh, an 82-year-old cow herder high in the Alborz mountains of Iran. (Sunday 29 March, 11.45am, Hebden Bridge Town Hall).
  • Sundance hit, Raise Hell: The Life & Times of Molly Ivins, a documentary about the celebrated national political columnist and Texan, Molly Ivins who used her razor-sharp wit to speak truth to power (Saturday 28 March, 5pm, Hebden Bridge Picture House).
  • Grand July Prize winner at Les Arcs European Film Festival, Rocks, about a teenage girl who suddenly finds herself struggling to take care of herself and her younger brother. The film has had many five-star reviews. (Saturday 18 March, 2.45pm, Hebden Bridge Picture House).
