Residents are invited to attend the Annual Town Meeting for Hebden Royd Town Council. The meeting for electors will be held on 12th April 2017 at the Waterfront Hall in the Town Hall, Hebden Bridge at 7:30 pm.
Refreshments will be served from 7.00pm.
Town and parish councils throughout the country hold a meeting at least once a year, which is an opportunity for electors to raise issues which are significant to them; to be able to discuss these issues and vote on them without the need for politicians. In other words, it gives people the power to decide for themselves on matters of importance.
This year, the main section of the meeting focuses on the role of the Town Council, why does it exist, what does it do and, most importantly, how can it help and support local people.
Speakers
There will be speakers from local projects such as Bridge Rectifier, Happy Valley Pride and Red Acre Allotments who will be sharing some of their success stories and how funding from Hebden Royd Town Council have enabled their various activities. There will also be presentations from the Town Council and Hebden Bridge Picture House, reflecting on the past year and what can be expected in the future.
Opportunity to raise issues
Before the close of the meeting there is the opportunity for an elector to raise any issue that they wish to discuss and the issue can be voted on, not just by councillors but by any elector of Hebden Royd. The subject can be anything an elector wishes to raise because they feel it is important.
If you want to complain about something but achieve nothing, stop at home. If you want your voice to be heard, convince others of the importance of your view, then come to the meeting and speak.
It is hoped that members of the public will take this opportunity and join us on the 12th April. Your feedback and input is paramount in enabling us to understand how we as a town council can best serve the community.
The business to be transacted at the meeting will be as follows: -
1. Apologies for absence
2. Notice of Meeting
3. Minutes of Annual Town Meeting – 27th April 2016
4. "What We Do" – presentations from Hebden Royd Town Council, Hebden Bride Picture House and local community projects.
5. Any other Town Business, whether raised by an elector or otherwise.
