New Access Forum for Hebden Bridge

The newly created Hebden Bridge Disabled Access Forum is holding its second meeting on Monday 31st October at 1pm to 3pm in Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

The group would welcome people encountering access problems and wanting to make changes and campaign for better facilities. You are very welcome to drop in and to leave at any time during the meeting if you cannot attend for the whole time. Travel expenses are available for anyone attending. People who cannot attend the meeting are most welcome to join the forum and to contribute by email, telephone or any other means.

Supporting the Community Foundation for Calderdale's Accessible Hebden Access Audit programme, and looking to increase access to public buildings, private businesses and the countryside in and around Hebden Bridge for people with all disabilities, forms the basis of the Forum's discussion to date.

Success at the Picture House in Hebden Bridge has improved access notably for those people with visual disabilities because of recently painted steps. Kath Tansey, who has been involved with the committee said 'I have (visited the Picture House) several times since and I am so grateful. They make the steps much easier to navigate'.

Next Monday's meeting will also give the group a chance to influence the developing Neighbourhood Plan with issues important to them, with the Town Council inviting them to comment on how planning can contribute to improving access across the Calder Valley, particularly in Hebden Bridge and the surrounding hilltop villages.

The meeting will be held in the Terrace Room at the Town Hall from 1pm to 3pm, all are welcome.
