Hebden’s Happy Hounds is back for 2025!
On Saturday 13th September from 11am – 4pm, join us in Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge for a pawfect day out to celebrate our four-legged friends.
Expect to find entertainment for all the family, including kids’ activities, a fun dog show and scent arena, shopping, animal charities and delicious local food and drink.
Hebden’s Happy Hounds is free to attend, and you don’t need to be a dog owner to join in the fun – everyone is welcome!
The event is a partnership between RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District branch and Hebden Royd Town Council (HRTC), sponsored by Sponsored by JC’s Pet Supplies of Hebden Bridge. The aim is to celebrate responsible pet ownership and recognise the huge role that dogs and all pets play in our lives.
The RSPCA will be hosting a fun dog show with classes like ‘Heinz 57’ and ‘Eyes that melt your soul.’ Classes can be entered on the day by way of a donation. If you’re interested in taking part, the full list of classes will be announced on Facebook very soon! This year the RSPCA are undertaking a huge building renovation – The Really Big ReFURb – which will expand and improve accommodation for all the animals they care for. All RSPCA donations will go directly towards this much needed project.
Kids (and big kids) can have a go at circus skills training with local juggling master Fire Man Dave, have your face painted and join in with interactive games and quizzes.
Visit the market area to shop independent businesses. Discover the work of some incredible local groups and charities, from the Cinnamon Trust to Mountain Rescue Search Dogs and many others besides.
And make sure you look out for Hebden Bridge Picture House’s ‘canine cinema quiz’ and HRTC’s free good-doggy bags!
Human nutritional needs will be catered for by Buzzibarista (hot and cold drinks and cakes), Fratellis Streetfood (pizza) and Vegan Spice (Indian street food). Happy Hounds visitors will also find refreshments and ice cream at the Park Life Café in Calder Holmes Park.
Councillor Pat Fraser, Chair of the Projects and Events Committee at Hebden Royd Town Council, says:
‘We are delighted to once again be bringing this popular event back to Calder Holmes Park.
We know that for many people, pets are a vital part of the family – making us smile, keeping us company and helping us to get out and enjoy our local green spaces. We’re looking forward to recognising and celebrating this at Hebden’s Happy Hounds this September.’
Fay Gibbons, Marketing & Communications Officer at the RSPCA says:
‘Hebden’s Happy Hounds is always such a fun day! As a local animal charity partnering with Hebden Royd Town Council, it’s important to highlight the need for responsible dog ownership, keeping our open spaces safe, whilst also providing the right love and care for our four-legged friends. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about caring for our canines and you might even come away with a rosette or two – we hope you can join us for another amazing event!’
This is an inclusive, family-friendly event that’s open to everyone, and to dogs of all ages and breeds – but please ensure they’re kept on a lead, and muzzled if required.
