Hebden Royd Town Council (HRTC) has funded the installation of a new cycle hangar in Mytholmroyd, offering residents a safe, secure and sustainable solution for storing their bicycles.

Located on Scout Road outside Woodbine Terrace, the hangar provides storage for up to six bikes while taking up only half a car parking space. It’s part of wider efforts to promote active travel, reduce traffic congestion and address the climate emergency – key priorities shared by both HRTC and the wider community.

The project has been delivered in partnership with Calderdale Council, who will manage the hangar’s operation and maintenance.

Local residents were involved throughout the process to help determine the best location for the hangar. Those interested in using the facility have been provided with information on how to register for a designated space.

As part of a wider initiative to encourage greener travel, additional cycle hangars are already planned across the borough, with the next due for installation in Todmorden later this year. Hangar locations are selected based on community demand, ensuring resources are directed where they’re most needed.

Councillor Steve Woodhead, Chair of the Local Environment and Climate Committee at HRTC, said: “HRTC is pleased to provide financial support to Calderdale Council for the new cycle hangar in Mytholmroyd. This scheme is a great example of how collaboration can deliver practical, sustainable solutions for our communities.

With Calderdale identifying key locations and overseeing its management, it’s exciting to see these improvements making cycling a more accessible option for residents. The project reflects HRTC’s ongoing commitment to building a greener Hebden Royd.”

Residents who would like to express interest in using a cycle hangar or learn more about the scheme can visit the Calderdale Council cycle parking page for further details.
