40 Hebden Royd homes receive free insulation
worth up to £8,000

40 Houses in Hebden Royd Receive Free Attic Insulation thanks to Calderdale Council and Better Homes Yorkshire home insulation scheme.

Hebden Royd residents are benefiting from free attic insulation and other energy-saving measures thanks to a project delivered by Calderdale Council in partnership with Better Homes Yorkshire. The project is funded by the Government's Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and help reduce fuel bills across the country.

The 40 qualifying households in Hebden Royd received ventilation, attic room insulation, underfloor insulation, loft insulation, and cavity wall insulation. To qualify for the scheme, households needed to provide evidence of a total combined income of less than £30K or be in receipt of certain government benefits, such as pension credit, child benefit, child tax credit, or universal credit.

The work was installed by Halifax-based energy efficiency specialists Eclipse Energy. Further funding is now available for homes in the area under the ECO4 scheme, with residents able to receive funding for insulation upgrades, as well as first time central heating or renewable energy, if they meet the qualifying criteria.

Facilitators Coordinator, at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, James Cragg successfully applied for the funding and had ventilation fitted in his kitchen and bathroom, as well as loft insulation. "It will make heating our home, a Victorian property with stone walls, rubble in-fill, and no insulation throughout, massively cheaper. I think it's a fantastic scheme," he said.

Hebden Royd councillor Nikki Harvey added: "We were delighted with the uptake on the scheme in the Hebden Royd area. A lot of the housing stock in this area is relatively old, so our EPC ratings are lower than the national average. Retrofit initiatives like this can make a massive difference to our residents' pockets and to the carbon footprint generated by our local housing stock."
