Hebden Bridge Urban District was established in 1891 and merged with Mytholmroyd Urban District in 1937 to form Hebden Royd Urban District. Administratively, Hebden Bridge was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.
The Local Government Act 1972 abolished these districts, replacing them with West Yorkshire Metropolitan County, Calderdale Metropolitan Borough, and Hebden Royd Town Civil Parish.
