Bulb Planting

The photo shows yellow daffodils in full bloom at the junction between Commercial Street and Burnley Road in Hebden Bridge.

Since 2007 Hebden Royd Town Council have provided in excess of 75,000 flower bulbs to community groups in Hebden Royd. The bulbs have been planted across Cragg Vale, Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge. As well as providing a vivid spring display for residents and visitors alike, the resultant flowers provide an early source of pollen and nectar for insects such as bumble bees emerging from their winter hibernation.

Hebden Royd Town Council has compiled a map showing locations of the bulb plantings over the years, so you can find the closest nearest to you.

Plans are underway to collect seed from the flowers this year with a view to growing our own bulbs to be planted in new and existing locations across Hebden Royd. Additionally, existing bulbs will be lifted and split, with ‘baby bulbs’ being replanted elsewhere.

If you are interested in getting involved in seed and bulb harvesting and/or planting, please get in touch with our Local Environment Officer by emailing gareth.muir@hebdenroydtowncouncil.gov.uk.
