Changes to Waste and Recycling Collection

Calderdale Council is shortly beginning a new waste and recycling collection contract with Suez (formerly known as Sita). There will be a number of changes to waste and recycling collections from 1st August.

The new recycling collection service will include:

  • More plastics (pots, tubs and plastic food trays)
  • Corrugated / brown cardboard
  • Small electrical items (toasters, kettles etc)
  • Food and drink cartons (also known as tetrapak)

The recycling will all be collected in the existing containers, however we are asking for cans to go into the white sack with plastics, instead of the box, from 1st August.

Many properties will have their collection day changed to make the most efficient use of new vehicles.

Due to the increased amount of recycling to be collected every week, there will be a slight reduction in the number of sacks taken from properties which don't have a wheeliebin; this will be four sacks per fortnightly collection to make the capacity more comparable with a wheeliebin capacity. Households with larger families or two children in full time nappies can apply to have additional waste taken as long as they are recycling as much as they can on the weekly recycling service.
