The Mayor of Hebden Royd Town Council, Cllr James Fearon, receives a Living Wage Employer Award from the Living Wage Foundation on behalf of the Town Council at the St Georges Centre in Leeds

Cllr Fearon said, "It was a honour to receive this award in recognition of Hebden Royd Town Council being one of the first Parish Councils in the UK to adopt a Living Wage. HRTC became a Living Wage Employer on the 16th December 2013 and with it members of staff across the Town Council, including the Hebden Bridge Picture House, benefitted from improved rates of pay. Subsequently we at Hebden Royd worked to encourage our principle authority, Calderdale MBC, to become a Living Wage employer also."

Cllr Fearon added "With the mounting challenges in this era of austerity cuts HRTC felt it was vitally important that our staff were treated well and felt valued. Paying people more doesn't necessarily mean people work harder, but it crucially means our staff have the security and confidence to give our customers the better experience possible when they come into contact with us."

"There is no doubt the Living wage enhances the quality of work, improves customer satisfaction and increases retention of good staff. We would encourage any employer to adopt the the Living Wage as it makes good business sense."
