New mayor

Outgoing Mayor Jonathan Timbers and new Mayor Cllr Karl Boggis

Last night the Annual Meeting of Hebden Royd Town Council took place at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Mytholmroyd. Cllr Karl Boggis was elected as the new Mayor of Hebden Royd, and Cllr James Fearon was elected as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Boggis announced his consort for the year would be his fiancee Felicity Dargen-Bell and Cllr Fearon announced his consort would be his son, Ennis Fearon.

Outgoing Mayor Cllr Jonathan Timbers thanked the members and officers of the Council for their work and support during his time as Mayor, saying that his was particularly glad to have been mayor during the WWI Centenary Year. He gave special thanks to his wife and daughter for supporting him during his mayoral year, and looked forward to being able to spend more time with them.

Cllr Boggis said that he hoped to see the Town Council continue to work for the benefit of the local community, and expressed a desire to see how the Town Council might work to improve local green spaces, recognising that community groups such as Friends of Stubbs Fields have already gone some way to securing our parks and recreation spaces for the future.

Mike EdwardsThe Award for Service to the Community was presented to Mike Edwards for his outstanding work producing the Roll of Honour for the WWI Centenary Year. This book was lovingly researched by Mike, as there are no names on the war memorial in Hebden Bridge and a number of other memorials to the dead have been lost over the years. Mike gave a moving speech, saying that to read the names of individuals, and to take a moment to reflect on the loss that their families experienced, is the greatest mark of respect we can give to those who died fighting for their country. Anyone wishing to view the Roll of Honour can do so at the Town Hall in normal office hours.

The meeting closed with a short film viewing of flood prevention work carried out by the River Stewardship Company, and the Loss is Eternal Sand Sculpture by Sand in Your Eye, which was commissioned to mark the WWI Centenary. The Town Council would like to extend its thanks to those who attended the meeting, particularly the Mayor and Consort of Calderdale Council, the Mayor and Consort of Todmorden Council, and the Chair of Wadsworth Parish Council.
